Van Dijk “enjoying” title race after Watford rout

Virgil van Dijk says he is enjoying every minute of the Premier League title race this season, saying he and his Liverpool teammates are only focusing on themselves.

The towering Dutchman enjoyed another great night at the office on Wednesday, as Jurgen Klopp’s side thrashed Watford 5-0 at Anfield.

Not only did he ensure the Reds kept yet another clean-sheet, he also registered two goals late in the day, taking his tally to the season to three.

There is constant talk surrounding pressure in the title race, with Manchester City continuing to breath down Liverpool’s necks.

Van Dijk told Sky Sports that the dressing room atmosphere is positive, though, adding that enjoyment has to be a big part of their tussle with City:

Everyone has their opinion on the race.

For us, it’s just a case of focusing on the game ahead of us and it was Watford. We prepared it very well, even if [the preparation] was very short.

We were all ready for it and up for it – we wanted to show our fans and ourselves we play like this the whole season. We have to enjoy it. Now it’s time to recover and make sure we’re ready for the weekend.”

I’m not worried about anything apart from what’s [going on] in the dressing room and the guys that have influence on our performance. Other than that, I’m just enjoying every bit of it.

It was a superb performance by the Reds at Anfield, as they responded in style after Sunday’s forgettable display away to Manchester United.

Everton await next at Goodison Park this weekend, hoping to damage their local rivals’ title hopes.
