While talk of pressure only increases, Liverpool entered Anfield with the knowledge that Manchester City secured three points against Watford on Saturday.
Then the match began with a refereeing blunder and the Reds falling behind. None of it mattered in the end, as Liverpool battered Burnley far worse than the 4-2 scoreline suggests.
When James Tarkowski fouled Alisson for the first goal of the game, Andre Marriner made matters worse by giving the goalkeeper a yellow card. It energised Anfield. Best of all, the way the players reacted had the gaffer gushing.
Despite a day that saw all seasons on display, Liverpool overcame all challenges to secure the result. Roberto Firmino finished a fine sequence for the equaliser. Within 10 minutes, Sadio Mane spun another to take the lead and Liverpool never really looked back.
Firmino added another in the second half, pouncing on a loose ball to all but put the match to bed. Yet, Liverpool surrendered a late second to Burnley before Mane matched his fellow forward with a second goal.
The only thing missing was a goal for Mohamed Salah who once again showed how valuable he is, even without goals. The Egyptian has not scored in four league games but has remained an immense presence going forward, wreaking havoc and helping to create goals for his teammates.
The Reds remain in the title chase by keeping pace, with a midweek trip to face Bayern Munich in Germany to advance their Champions League ambitions waiting as well.
Here are four findings from the match.
