Liverpool have been told by Benfica that star defender Ferro will cost €70million this summer.
The Reds were linked with a loan move for the 21-year-old two years ago, but a transfer never materialised.
Reports on Monday suggested the Reds were back in for the highly-rated centre-back, though.
Although Ferro’s release clause is now a huge €100million, Benfica will allow him to leave for less, according to Calciomercato.
Jurgen Klopp is thought to see the Portuguese as an ideal man to bring in this summer, in terms of his all-round profile.
Without question marks surrounding the long-term qualities of Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren, as well as Joe Gomez’s ongoing fitness issues, a new top class centre-back is required at Anfield.
Ferro only broke into the Benfica first team a month ago but he is one of Portugal’s most exciting young players.
Klopp may not be willing to stump up a much as €70million for his services, but that is likely to become clearer over time.
