Xherdan Shaqiri will play no part in Switzerland’s upcoming internationals having picked up a groin injury, report the Mirror.

The diminutive winger was set to be a key man in the Euro 2020 qualifiers against Georgia (March 23rd) and Denmark (March 26th).

Having joined up with his teammates on Monday, Shaqiri didn’t participate in training, undergoing a medial examination instead.

An inflammation of the groin was detected, ending the 27-year-old’s international involvement prematurely.

The hope is that Shaqiri is fit again for Liverpool’s next game, at home to Tottenham in a crucial Premier League clash on March 31st.

The former Bayern Munich man has fallen out of favour at Anfield of late, however, after becoming a prominent figure midway through the season.

He has not played since the goalless draw at Manchester United last month, when an ineffective second-half cameo may have irked Jurgen Klopp.

There is still time for Shaqiri to turn his season around, though, should he recover from this current issue in good time.
