Zinedine Zidane wants to bring Liverpool target Adrien Rabiot to Real Madrid in the summer transfer window, according to reports.
The midfielder, who is a fully-fledged international for his native France, looks all but set to leave Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season, with his contract at the club expiring.
Rabiot will be allowed to join a new club on a free transfer, which has reportedly attracted Liverpool’s interest in past months.
Barcelona had appeared to be leading the race, but according to Spanish news outlet OK Diario, as cited by Calciomercato, their bitter La Liga rivals Real could pip them to his signature.
Los Blancos recently reappointed Zidane as their new first-team manager, and it seems the Frenchman is making plans ahead of the summer transfer window already.
The boss has reportedly set his sights on luring Rabiot to the Bernabeu Stadium, as the race heats up for his signing ahead of his contract’s expiration in June.
Why Rabiot would be a shrewd signing for Liverpool
Rabiot would, of course, arrive on a free transfer. There’d be little risk involved in this signing, but the rewards could prove to be immense given the player’s quality.
Rabiot would add yet another strong option to Liverpool’s already-impressive pool of central midfield players.
James Milner is entering the twilight of his career, and also sees his contract at Anfield expire in 2020. Rabiot would be an excellent successor for the ex-England international.
Fending off competition from the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona for Rabiot’s signing would be a huge statement of intent from Liverpool.
