United fans want City over Liverpool, claims Walker

Kyle Walker says Manchester United fans would rather Manchester City win the Premier League than Liverpool this season.

United find themselves in an unenviable position, with their two biggest rivals battling for glory in 2018/19.

They can have a major say in which way the title goes, ahead of Wednesday’s crucial Manchester derby at Old Trafford.

There are some United supporters who would seemingly not be unhappy to lose to City, however, in order to deprive Liverpool of a first league crown since 1990.

Speaking to the Mirror, Walker claims that that has been the case in his day-to-day life recently:

United fans are in a difficult situation obviously.

When I’m out and about or walking my dogs, United fans are coming up to me saying ‘we’d rather City win the league than Liverpool’.

It’s strange to hear but I can assure you the United players aren’t going to leave a red carpet and say ‘go on City, score past us’.

They’re going to make it difficult because it’s a game of football and they’re fighting for the top four as well so they need the points.

Wednesday’s game leaves Liverpool fans cheering for United for once – something that is almost never the case.

A win or a draw for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side would suddenly put the Reds in pole position, with three wins in their remaining fixtures enough to seal glory.

It promises to be a nervy end to the campaign for both Liverpool and City, but both should be proud of their efforts, regardless of who eventually falls short.
