AC Milan are interested in signing Dejan Lovren this summer, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.
The Serie A club are looking to have a squad overhaul, with Marco Giampaolo taking charge as manager and Frederic Massara set to become sporting director.
Lovren is someone they see as ideal to bring in, despite an injury-plagued season at Liverpool.
The 29-year-old featured just 18 times in all competitions, playing a lesser role than many as the Reds won the Champions League.
It is a move that could potentially appeal to Lovren, considering he is now undoubtedly Liverpool’s fourth-choice centre-back.
Virgil van Dijk is arguably the first name on the Reds’ team-sheet, while Joe Gomez is an immense young player and Joel Matip finished the season in excellent form.
Lovren is at the top of Milan’s wishlist, with a lack of centre-backs currenty on show at the San Siro.
The Croatia international has spent five seasons at Anfield, where he has proven to be a divisive figure.
While some performances have been good along the way, too many individual errors have seen him criticised.
Liverpool's top 5 Premier League centre-backs
5. Daniel Agger
A hugely composed, elegant centre-back, Agger was a popular figure at Anfield.
Unfortunately, injuries robbed him of reaching his potential, but he was still a key man in the mid to late 2000s.
4. Stephane Henchoz
Henchoz is an underrated Liverpool player, considering he won a cup treble in 2000/01.
While Sami Hyypia earned much of the praise, the Swiss was also a massive part of their partnership being so successful.
3. Jamie Carragher
Carragher went from being a divisive young player to a Liverpool legend.
His career took off once he was played as a central defender, and he became one of the best in Europe at his peak.
2. Sami Hyypia
A true Reds hero, Hyypia cost just £2.6million from Willem II in 1999 and went on to make 464 appearances for the club.
A great captain and an even better centre-back, he is one of Liverpool’s truly great bargain signings.
1. Virgil van Dijk
There is no better defender in the world currently than Van Dijk, who is riding on the crest of a wave.
He has already surpassed the level of Hyypia and Carragher, which says everything you need to know about him.
