‘Will shine’ – Virgil van Dijk makes bullish Liverpool claim

Virgil van Dijk will surely go down as one of Liverpool’s greatest ever players.

The Dutch international has been through all the ups and downs at Anfield since joining the club in January 2018.

He is still going strong and has shown no signs of slowing down, but there is a general belief that the Reds peaked under Jurgen Klopp and it will never get as good as that again.

Van Dijk, however, believes football clubs always move on, adding that he has never felt the Reds’ best days are behind them.

Virgil van Dijk’s encouraging Liverpool claim

“We can always think it was better back in the day,” said Van Dijk via the Liverpool Echo.

“But that is not the mentality that it should be at a club like Liverpool, and I don’t feel it has ever been.

“The club will always move on at a certain point, and there are always players who will shine and perform for the club.

“It is down to these players who are here now to show it every three or four days.”

The Anfield faithful will always look back upon Klopp’s stint as the period that made them believe once again as they broke their 30-year Premier League jinx.

However, they did win the Premier League just a year after the German’s departure under Arne Slot, so Van Dijk’s words certainly have a lot of merit.
