Antoine Griezmann would represent the perfect signing for Liverpool this summer, according to pundit Craig Burley.
The Frenchman’s future is up in the air this summer and Barcelona look strong favourites to acquire his signature.
The World Cup winner is regarded as one of Europe’s best players, having starred for both France and Atletico Madrid in recent years.
It is expected to be a low-key summer at Liverpool, with just a few additions fine-tuning Jurgen Klopp’s squad.
A high-profile attacking signing should not be ruled out, however, adding quality and providing competition in the final third.
Burnley believes Griezmann would be the perfect fit at Anfield, telling ESPN FC that it would further bridge the gap between Liverpool and Manchester City:
I still think that Antoine Griezmann would be a fantastic addition to Liverpool.
Bearing in mind how well they did last year and how close they came to Manchester City.
The quality that he would bring and to have somebody that can rotate with Firmino in that front three would be a fantastic addition.
I don’t know if that is something that could be done but I think that if they are going to bridge that gap to Manchester City then that is the kind of player that they need to be signing.
It is a move that is unlikely to happen, not least because of the vast transfer fee that would be required to sign Griezmann.
If the transfer did materialise, however, it would be a significant piece of business by the Reds.
Antoine Griezmann next club odds
Barcelona - 1/10
Barcelona are the overriding favourites to sign Griezmann this summer.
The Catalan giants are in need of fresh blood, and although the Frenchman is now 28, he will provide exactly that.
PSG - 7/1
A move to Paris Saint-Germain has been mooted, especially with question marks surrounding the futures of Kylian Mbappe and Neymar.
Could Griezmann return to his homeland and star for the Ligue 1 champions?
Man United - 14/1
Manchester United have also been loosely linked with the 28-year-old, with their financial clout always giving them a chance of signing top players.
There is no Champions League football at Old Trafford next season, however, so it would be a shock move.
Liverpool - 25/1
Liverpool are seen as outsiders to sign Griezmann, which is no great surprise.
The Reds are more likely to sign a younger attacking player – possibly someone capable of thriving both out wide and centrally.
Man City - 25/1
Do Manchester City really need any more attacking reinforcements?
It is highly unlikely that Griezmann will team up with Pep Guardiola, with the Premier League champions more than well-stocked in that area of the pitch.
