Other Premier League clubs bidding for Liverpool target Nicolas Pepe is not “unthinkable”, according to reliable journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi.
The Lille winger was strongly linked with a move to Anfield yet again on Tuesday, with RMC Sport‘s Bouhafsi claiming “concrete discussions” had taken place.
The news was swiftly denied by Merseyside media, although doubts surrounded the validity of those reports.
Although the claims in France suggest Liverpool are in pole position to sign Pepe, acquiring his services won’t be a smooth ride.
Speaking to Get French Football News, Bouhafsi said competition for his signature may come in the form of fellow Premier League clubs:
Don’t be surprised if other clubs dive into the race in the coming days, at Lille, I’m told that they are anticipating other Premier League clubs to get involved.
It is not unthinkable.
Pepe is one of the most highly-rated attacking players in Europe, following a superb season will Lille.
The 24-year-old wide man is currently on Africa Cup of Nations duty with the Ivory Coast.
The varying reports make it a difficult story to gauge, but it would be a surprise if the Reds weren’t showing some level of interest in the player.
Nicolas Pepe next club odds
Liverpool - 5/6
Liverpool still seemingly lead the race to sign Pepe, with the bookies making him odds-on to join the European champions.
He would the perfect addition, bringing extra firepower and depth to the squad.
Inter Milan - 3/1
Inter Milan have been linked with Pepe recently and it can’t be ruled out.
The Serie A are enjoying a potentially productive summer currently, with Edin Dzeko and Romelu Lukaku both rumoured targets.
Bayern Munich - 8/1
Bayern Munich are another top side to have been strongly linked with the Ivorian.
Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery have moved on, with young wingers required to replace them.
Atletico Madrid - 11/1
Atletico Madrid are famed for being good in the transfer market and Pepe would be perfect for them.
They feel like an outside bet, however, with the Premier League increasingly looking like his next destination.
PSG - 12/1
Paris Saint-Germain can never be ruled out of any transfer, considering their vast wealth.
Both Neymar and Kylian Mbappe are being linked with summer exits, which would leave them very depleted.
Man United - 12/1
Manchester United are looking to rebuild this summer, following a poor season.
They need to sign young, exciting players rather than ageing superstars – Pepe would fit the bill, but would a move to Old Trafford appeal right now?
