Naby Keita has left Guinea’s Africa Cup of Nations squad briefly, in order to see a Liverpool doctor regarding a groin injury.
That’s according to Foot224‘s Amadou Makadji, who confirmed the midfielder has been sent for further examinations on the ongoing problem.
Keita picked up the injury in the 1-0 defeat to Nigeria last week, also suffering an issue with his shin in the same game.
After speaking to a Liverpool doctor about the thigh problem, the decision has now been made to return to his club.
It will only be a short-term absence from international duty for the 24-year-old, however, who will be back with his teammates in Cairo within three days.
Guinea have reached the AFCON knockout rounds and the hope is that Keita can still play a key role in the tournament.
The former RB Leipzig man suffered a frustrating end to the season at Anfield, leaving the pitch injured in the 3-0 defeat in Barcelona in May.
It meant he played no part in Liverpool Champions League final victory over Tottenham.
