Liverpool midfielder Leighton Clarkson has signed a professional contract with the Reds.
The club’s official website released the news on Monday, with the 17-year-old impressing Reds officials over the past 12 months.
Clarkson featured heavily in the academy last season, playing a key role in Liverpool’s FA Youth Cup-winning side with a dramatic win over Manchester City in the final.
The teenager has been on the books of Liverpool for the past eight years, with the Lancashire born midfielder joining from Blackburn Rovers at the age of nine.
Clarkson is known for his impressive midfield displays, with a wide range of passing and ability from dead-ball situations two key attributes that have impressed Liverpool officials.
It remains to be seen as to whether or not the Reds will loan the youngster out to gain a first taste of senior football.
Clarkson could be included in Jurgen Klopp’s first-team plans this season and could be handed the chance to impress in the Reds’ domestic cup campaigns next season.
