Morata could miss Atletico Madrid’s Champions League clash with Liverpool

Alvaro Morata could miss Atletico Madrid’s Champions League first leg clash with Liverpool, according to Cadena Cope, via Mundo Deportivo.

The striker picked up a muscle injury in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat away to Real Madrid – a loss that leaves Diego Simeone’s side in sixth place in La Liga.

Atletico host Liverpool in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on February 18th, but Morata is now a doubt.

The 27-year-old is expected to miss around two weeks of action, making his involvement in the first-leg very unlikely.

It is also mentioned that the injured Diego Costa could be back by then, however, which is vital for Simeone, considering Joao Felix is also expected to be sidelined.

I believe Liverpool will be given a stern test by Atletico, regardless of their potential striker shortage.

They remain expertly drilled in a defensive sense and the Reds will likely find it tough to break them down at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Failing to score an away goal would leave Jurgen Klopp’s men in a precarious position ahead of the second leg at Anfield.

That being said, the Spanish giants are struggling badly in front of goal, scoring just 22 times in as many league games this season.

I expect Liverpool to get through the tie, but I also don’t think it will be as one-sided as both sides’ respective seasons suggest.
