Liverpool ‘seriously thinking’ about making January move for Kabak

Liverpool are still ‘seriously thinking’ about signing Ozan Kabak in January, according to Calciomercato [via Sport Witness].

The Reds have linked with the Schalke centre-back a number of times recently, following Virgil van Dijk’s likely season-ending injury.

Jurgen Klopp is only left with Joel Matip and Joe Gomez as out-and-out established central defensive options, with Fabinho also able to fill in there.

It is noted that Kabak could be allowed to leave Schalke in January for a cut-price amount of €25million, due to the Bundesliga club’s current financial issues.

AC Milan are also seen a strong contender to sign the Turkey international, but Liverpool appear to be right in the mix, too.

Although the Reds have done well without Van Dijk so far, winning five and drawing one of their six games, there is still a need to bring in an additional centre-back.

Matip’s injury problems are well-known, while Fabinho is currently sidelined and has had fitness issues in the past.

Kabak would be an ideal signing in many ways, considering he is still only 20, and therefore wouldn’t expect to be playing every week.

He is also more experienced than Nathaniel Phillips and Rhys Williams, already making 44 Bundesliga appearances and winning four caps for Turkey.
