Incredible statistic sums up Gini Wijnaldum’s vast influence at Liverpool

A remarkable statistic has outlined why Gini Wijnaldum has been such an outstanding servant for Liverpool.

The Dutchman joined from Newcastle United in the summer of 2016, but it went somewhat under the radar compared to other signings.

In the four years since then, however, Wijnaldum has been a vital performer, knitting things together in unsung fashion in the midfield and making 200 appearances in that time.

Liverpool cruised to a 3-0 victory at home to Leicester City on Sunday night, and after the game, an eye-catching statistic surrounding the 30-year-old emerged.

As revealed by Liverpool’s official Twitter account, nobody has won more games than Wijnaldum (133) in their first 200 matches for the Reds, with Alan Kennedy (131) in second place.

It is an astonishing statistic which perfectly sums up the understated brilliance of Wijnaldum.

He will never be the most lauded player at Liverpool, but he does everything in such unruffled fashion and he brings so much to the team in terms of industry and intelligence.

There is no denying that Wijnaldum will eventually leave Anfield as a club legend, considering what he has achieved. That could be next summer, but judging by his start to the campaign, a contract extension at Liverpool would be great news.
