Jurgen Klopp admits there is “no news” regarding injured Liverpool stars

Jurgen Klopp says there is “no news” on the injury progress of several key Liverpool players, ahead of their Champions League visit of Atalanta.

The Premier League champions take on the Italian outfit on Wednesday evening, with victory sending them into the last-16 of Europe’s biggest club competition.

Liverpool thumped Atalanta 5-0 in the reverse fixture earlier this month, with Diogo Jota scoring a hat-trick.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Tuesday, Klopp was coy about whether or not the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jordan Henderson, Thiago and Xherdan Shaqiri are available yet:

No news. We will see. I don’t want to speak too much about it because I have no idea who Atalanta can bring so why should we give any information?

It appears as though Liverpool could be without their aforementioned stars on Wednesday – Klopp would probably have spoken more positively if they were available.

It may be that he is wrapping the likes of Henderson and Thiago in cotton wool for the trip to Brighton this weekend, with that game arguably more important in the grand scheme of things.

The beauty of this Liverpool team is that they are superb in adversity, however, with six wins and a draw in their seven games since losing Virgil van Dijk and Thiago to injury at Everton.

While it is vital to get influential figures fit again, the Reds know how to win without them.
