Adam Lallana reveals Liverpool’s respect for Brighton ahead of clash

Adam Lallana has revealed how much Liverpool respect Brighton as a team, following a tough game last season.

The 32-year-old traded Anfield for the Amex Stadium during the summer, following six years in a Reds shirt.

Lallana is impressing at his new club, proving to be a bigger fish in a smaller pond, and using his experience and quality to good effect.

The midfielder was a second half substitute for Liverpool in their 2-1 win at home to the Seagulls in the Premier League almost a year ago, as Jurgen Klopp’s men were pushed all the way.

Speaking to reporters ahead of facing his former club, Lallana spoke about how impressed the Reds were with Brighton that day:

I was involved in the game at Anfield and we lost 2-1. How do I say that? Did I lose 2-1 or did I win 2-1?

Liverpool won 2-1 but afterwards the lads were speaking about how well Brighton played and the philosophy and the manager.

Sometimes those results, beating the big boys, isn’t about luck on the day or set-pieces. It’s about a mentality shift.

It’s about going to those places on the day and really believing you can win. I can maybe help the belief of the team. And hopefully we can have a few big results.

Lallana’s move to Brighton made sense for all parties, with playing time no longer a guarantee at Liverpool.

He had moved further down the pecking order, while injuries were also proving to be problematic.

Klopp will know how wary he will have to be of Lallana on Saturday, however, with the Reds boss thinking so highly of him as both a player and a person.

Although his love for Liverpool is clear, the ex-Red would love to make a big statement against them this weekend, giving supporters a reminder of his qualities.
