Former Liverpool target Jeremy Doku still ‘appeals’ to the Reds

Former Liverpool transfer target Jeremy Doku still ‘appeals’ to the Reds, or at least a player of his ilk.

That’s according to Het Laatste Nieuws [via Sport Witness], who say the 18-year-old is someone who Liverpool admire, even though a move hasn’t yet come to fruition.

The forward traded Anderlecht for Rennes at the beginning of October and was linked with a move to Anfield beforehand.

It is stated that Doku won’t be moving to Liverpool any time soon, however, considering he is at a point where he is too developed to play for the under-23s, bur also not experienced enough to be a reliable deputy to the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

Although it looks as though Doku won’t be heading to Liverpool in the near future, it is still worth tracking his progress.

Salah, Mane and Firmino aren’t going to be around forever – all three are now approaching 30 – so it is crucial that Jurgen Klopp has tailor-made replacements ready and doesn’t let them leave without sufficient quality ready to come straight in.

Doku’s profile fits the bill in that respect, with the Belgian a speedy wide man with quick feet and bags of pace – but he needs to keep improving in the coming years.

It will be interesting to see how he develops at Rennes, as he looks to go up another gear.
