Remarkable Diogo Jota statistic sums up his influence at Liverpool

A remarkable statistic regarding Diogo Jota sums up the vast influence he is having at Liverpool this season.

The 23-year-old joined from Wolves in the summer transfer window and has made a sensational start to life at Anfield.

Jota scored Liverpool’s goal in Saturday’s 1-1 draw away to Brighton in the Premier League, meaning the forward has scored nine goals in just 14 appearances for the Reds, making himself a contender for the club’s star man of 2020/21 so far.

On top of that, Jota has scored just one goal fewer in open play than Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane combined this season, as highlighted by writer Joel Rabinowitz (@joel_archie) on Twitter.

When Jota arrived at Liverpool, he was generally seen as ideal backup to Salah, Mane and Roberto Firmino, bringing much-needed attacking depth to the Reds’ squad.

Instead, the Portuguese has arguably been his side’s best attacking player, hitting the ground running in stunning fashion.

Jota is almost impossible to leave out at the moment, certainly in big matches, giving Jurgen Klopp a real selection headache for the rest of the campaign.

Liverpool’s new man has exceeded all expectations and looks a special prospect moving forward.
