A number of Liverpool fans have been left wowed by youngster Oakley Cannonier’s goal for the Reds’ under-18s, as well as his famous backstory.
The 16-year-old found the net for the academy side on Tuesday night as they beat Burnley 4-1 in Kirkby.

Cannonier is an exciting attacking prospect at Liverpool and has also represented England at under-15 and under-16 level.
The teenager is perhaps best known for his involvement in one of the most famous goals in recent Reds history – something not everyone may know. It was Cannonier who quickly gave Trent Alexander-Arnold the ball against Barcelona back in May 2019, when he was on duty as a ball boy.
It allowed Alexander-Arnold to take a swift corner and tee up Divock Origi for a truly memorable goal, sending Liverpool into the Champions League final. Without his involvement, there is no guarantee that the goal would have happened, or if the Reds would even have gone on to win a sixth European Cup.
These Liverpool fans have been reacting to Cannonier’s goal on Twitter and his “brilliant” first touch, also revealing their thoughts on his links to that iconic Alexander-Arnold goal 19 months ago.
