Liverpool players don’t trust Adrian, claims former striker Agbonlahor

Adrian is the one individual who Liverpool’s players don’t trust, according to former Premier League striker Gabriel Agbonlahor.

The Spaniard has fallen down the pecking order at Anfield, seemingly losing his role as second-choice goalkeeper to Caoimhin Kelleher.

The youngster has played in the recent absence of Alisson, looking assured and mature beyond his years, showing up Adrian in the process.

Speaking to Football Insider, ex-Aston Villa star Agbonlahor claimed the 33-year-old doesn’t have the trust of his teammates:

Adrian is not trusted by the Liverpool defence, he’s not trusted by the manager, the players. He’s not very good with his feet.

Agbonlahor is spot on in his assessment, with Adrian spreading nervousness throughout Liverpool’s team when he has played this season.

Whether it be his distribution or decision-making, he has never looked comfortable, and it has made the Reds look susceptible, not least in the 7-2 thrashing away to Aston Villa.

In contrast, Kelleher has looked like he belongs in this Liverpool side, appearing to be a far more natural backup to Alisson.

The Irishman is still learning, and will make mistakes now and again, but persevering with him over Adrian makes perfect sense.
