Jordan Henderson admits Joe Gomez’s injury was “hard to take”

Jordan Henderson has admitted he found Joe Gomez’s injury the toughest to accept out of all Liverpool’s fitness issues this season.

The Reds are currently decimated with injuries, with endless key figures absent, whether it be Virgil van Dijk, Thiago or Diogo Jota, to name just a few.

Gomez is possibly Liverpool’s most long-term absentee, having picked up a serious knee injury in England training last month.

Speaking after Sunday’s disappointing 1-1 draw away to Fulham, Henderson discussed the injuries, singling out Gomez’s as the worst in his mind:

Injuries are really difficult as a player, I’ve suffered a few in my career so far, but when you seen team-mates getting injured, it isn’t nice,” the Liverpool captain said after the 1-1 draw with Fulham.

Certain injuries that I’ve seen over the last few months, it isn’t nice. Especially Joe Gomez, the way that happened, was hard for me to take, really, in the manner it did.

It’s tough, it’s tough for players. I think it’s happened to a lot of other teams as well. It makes us stronger in the dressing room to keep on fighting, keep on going and whatever 11 or 18 plays at the weekend, or in midweek, we give everything for the three points.

It could be that Henderson is annoyed because an England colleague injured Gomez, but the line from Gareth Southgate was that the incident happened with nobody around him.

What is more likely that the Liverpool skipper is referring to the severity of the injury, and perhaps the pain his Reds teammate was in at the time.

It is becoming laughable how many players Jurgen Klopp has unavailable at the moment, with Joel Matip the latest to pick up an issue.

I believe they would win the title at a canter with everyone fit, but this current situation is really testing Liverpool’s resolve.
