Liverpool dealt blow as Bayern Munich are favourites to sign Dayot Upamecano

Bayern Munich are the front-runners to sign Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig in January, according to The Athletic‘s David Ornstein.

Manchester United had also been seen as contenders to sign the centre-back, but their interest appears to have ‘cooled’.

Upamecano has has been linked with a move to Liverpool in the recent past, as Jurgen Klopp considers a potential January addition at the back.

It looks as though the chances of any deal happening are increasingly unlikely, however, with European champions Bayern at the front of the queue.

The report does state that Upamecano ‘will have more suitors’, but Liverpool aren’t specified as one.

This could be considered a blow for Liverpool, but financially, it is always going to be tricky deal to get over the line, considering the Frenchman would likely cost a huge amount.

Ozan Kabak is another centre-back who has been tipped to join the Reds, and considering the Schalke man could be available for as little as €15million, he may be considered a better value-for-money option.

It would be a surprise if Liverpool didn’t go into the transfer market next month, considering the shortage of defenders.

Joel Matip and Fabinho are doing a good job currently, but the former’s inability to stay fit was highlighted again on Sunday, as he was removed at half-time in the 1-1 draw away to Fulham with a back injury.
