Liverpool laid down their marker as title defenders on Wednesday night as they came past a dogged Tottenham side at Anfield in a meeting of the Premier League’s top two.
Jurgen Klopp‘s side dominated for much of the match but were caught out on a couple of occasions as Spurs sat deep and looked to counter.
The Reds took the lead when an aesthetically pleasing build-up resulted in a Mohamed Salah shot being deflected and looping over a hapless Huge Lloris, the Egyptian’s 11th strike in the league this season.
Just minutes later the visitors were level when debutant Rhys Williams didn’t step up in the offside line to allow Son Heung-min behind where he ruthlessly levelled the match.
After the break, it was much the same with Liverpool in the ascendency and Spurs only afforded chances on the counter – despite Mourinho’s post-match protestations about them being the better side.
With just minutes remaining, an Andy Robertson corner was met by a glorious header from Roberto Firmino who instantly ran the full length of the pitch to celebrate with an occupied Kop.
Klopp’s men go three points clear at the summit with Crystal Palace up next on Saturday.
Here’s how we rated the Liverpool players last night…
