Gary Neville hails the brilliance of “world-class” Roberto Firmino

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has hailed Roberto Firmino as “world-class”, following his exceptional performance against Crystal Palace.

Liverpool annihilated the Eagles at Selhurst Park on Saturday afternoon, cruising to a 7-0 win in south London.

Endless Reds players impressed on the day, but it was Firmino who was the pick of the bunch.

The Brazilian scored twice and registered an assist, with both goals taken in sublime fashion.

Speaking to Premier League Productions after the game [via HITC], Neville lauded the Liverpool striker:

People talk about Firmino struggling and not scoring goals. I think he’s one of the best players in the Premier League. I think he’s that good in the way he plays. He has a vision. He brings people into play. He’s so unselfish.

This is the devastation of Liverpool. Mane running forward. Minamino. Look at Firmino there. That touch [for Liverpool’s third goal]. That finish. That’s world-class.

There is no denying that Firmino has struggled to find top form for much of 2020, but he is also undoubtedly a world-class footballer.

The 29-year-old is so important to everything Liverpool do, whether it be linking with teammates, showing elite levels of intelligence or working relentlessly off the ball.

Firmino was always going to return to top form – he is simply too good not to – and the last couple of games suggest he has found his magic again, with three goals and an assist coming in that time.

His first goal against Palace, in particular, was sublime, whether it be the first touch or the finish.
