Liverpool fans react to journalist’s claims on January transfer business

Many Liverpool supporters may have been expecting a busy January transfer window as Jurgen Klopp looked to fill considerable holes in his squad caused by long-term injuries.

With last season’s first-choice central defensive duo of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez both expected to be out for the majority of the season, it was widely expected that the Reds would look to sign a centre-half in the winter transfer window.

However, a report from the Liverpool Echo‘s Ian Doyle has claimed it could be a quiet window and the club are ‘unlikely to make any major signings in January’.

In the absence of Gomez and Van Dijk, Fabinho has dropped back into defence whilst youngsters Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips have both deputised with distinction on occasion.

This decision could of course change in the interim, it would only take one more defensive injury to send the Anfield squad deep into the doldrums once more.

Having been linked with a host of potential suitors to fill the void left by Van Dijk and Gomez, many Kopites may have allowed themselves to be optimistic over a new arrival.

Here’s a pick of the reactions from Liverpool fans on Twitter, with some calling the situation “laughable” and fearing that there could be “no title” this season without defensive reinforcements next month…
