Quiz: How much can you remember about Liverpool’s past January signings?

The January transfer window is fast approaching and Liverpool could well be involved in the market, with a central defender seen by many as the priority when it comes to potential incomings.

Conventional wisdom would tell you the mid-season window is best left alone for the most part – deals completed in January can often end in tears.

Whilst Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year for the mere mortal, the January transfer free-for-all is more akin to a football agent’s favourite season.

However, there have been exceptions to that rule, as the Reds can testify; after all, it was the winter window that Luis Suarez arrived at Anfield in almost a decade ago before going on to break all kinds of records on his way to scoring 82 goals in 133 appearances.

More recent history also reflects glowingly on Liverpool’s January transfer credentials as the reigning Premier League champions used the month-long window to sign a certain Virgil van Dijk from Southampton three years ago.

Whilst those two turned out to be worthy acquisitions, exceptions to the unwritten rule perhaps, the arrivals and subsequent spells on Merseyside of Andy Carroll and Steven Caulker both testify to the ‘best left alone’ mentality.

With both the best and worst of Liverpool’s recent January business in mind, we’ve put together a quiz to see how well you remember the deals and the careers of the recent mid-season arrivals…
