Divock Origi named as potential Inter Milan target

Liverpool forward Divock Origi has been earmarked as a possible January signing for Inter Milan by Corriere dello Sport (via Cult of Calcio), with the Serie A giants on the lookout for a striker to supplement former Everton and Manchester United hitman Romelu Lukaku.

Origi has been linked with a host of clubs in recent weeks as the 25-year-old’s future looks increasingly in doubt on Merseyside following his loss of form and the impact of new arrival Diogo Jota.

The Nerazzurri are said to be looking at multiple options around Europe but could be inclined to plump for the 29-cap Belgian owing to his established international relationship with Lukaku.

Once hailed as the go-to man for any tricky situation for Jurgen Klopp’s side, the 2018/19 Champions League cult hero has had an increasingly diminishing impact in his fleeting appearances ever since the final of that competition in Madrid. His three Premier League appearances this term have amounted to just seven minutes of action.

Origi’s days as a Red certainly seem to be numbered. Liverpool would likely be in favour of a permanent departure as a loan move leaves the club without a fee to reinvest and would merely kick the matter further down the road.

Origi is valued at £14.4m by Transfermarkt but the Reds would almost certainly demand more than that fee for the 25-year-old.

Klopp’s potential pursuit could of a central defender may well play a part in Origi’s next destination. With Schalke reportedly keen on a swap deal including Ozan Kabak and Wolves also in the mix, the Reds could use the striker as a makeweight for either the Turkish defender or Conor Coady.

Perhaps £10m plus recent defensive target Milan Skriniar would get the deal over the line with Inter.
