Liverpool still in the race to sign David Alaba this summer

Liverpool are ‘still trying’ to sign David Alaba this summer, despite him reportedly agreeing a four-year deal with Real Madrid.

That’s according to Bild journalist Christian Falk on Twitter, who claims the 28-year-old is still very much on the Reds’ radar.

Alaba will bring an end to 11 years at Bayern Munich at the end of the season, during which time he has won nine Bundesliga titles and two Champions League crowns.

Not only that, he has also been named Austria’s Footballer of the Year an incredible seven times, highlighting his legendary status at both club and international level.

Falk states that Madrid are still strong favourites to sign Alaba, but it is not a done deal yet.

Alaba is a wonderful player who still has years left in him at the top, so Liverpool signing him would be hugely exciting.

He is a player blessed with world-class quality on the ball, versatility – he has become a centre-back at Bayern having been a left-back before – and vast levels of experience, all of which could make him a great addition.

Granted, he wouldn’t necessarily be the answer at centre-back, with his lack of height a potential issue, but his ability to thrive in several positions and provide squad depth could make him invaluable.

Expect to see Alaba in a Madrid shirt this summer, but a move to Liverpool would be an extremely pleasant surprise.
