Following Georginio Wijnaldum’s departure from Liverpool, the Reds are reportedly after a replacement.
A number of players have been linked with the club including Florian Neuhaus, Youri Tielemans, and Saúl Ñíguez.
Despite the links, there has been no hard evidence that the club are targeting any of the aforementioned players.
However, recent reports have suggested that another player the club have been linked with is now off the cards too.
According to the Liverpool Echo, the Reds regard a deal for Portugal and Lille midfielder Renato Sanches ‘too expensive’…
As cited by Anfield Watch above, the newspaper reports that the club think Sanches would be too expensive.
The club had previously been linked with a move for the former Golden Boy winner by Fabrizio Romano.
However, given Sanches’ incredible title-winning season with Lille and his impressive start at Euro 2020, he could cost a pretty penny.
With a current market value of £27million, it would first seem as though a fair deal could be reached.
Despite this, it seems as though plenty of other clubs are interested, including Bayern Munich.
The Germans signed Sanches from Benfica in 2016 for £31.5million when the midfielder was just 18-years-old.
Now, it has been rumoured that Bayern are keen to bring Sanches back to the Allianz through their buy-back clause.
The solidity in these rumours is questionable, however, but one thing for sure is that Sanches will be on the move.
Liverpool are concerned by his price due to the likelihood of him wanting a staring role in midfield.
The Echo states that they “regard the overall deal for his services as too expensive considering the status he would likely have in the squad”.
Liverpool cannot offer Sanches a permanent role in midfield, and instead need more of a rotation player given the amount of talent already possessed in midfield.
