Liverpool refuse £90m star’s participation at Tokyo 2020 Olympics this summer

With the Premier League season at an end, and the Euro 2020 tournament close to completion, pre-season will soon begin.

Liverpool will be hoping to have the return of their full-strength squad after last season’s struggles.

The Reds went much of the campaign without a number of their first-team stars, especially in defence.

However, the club recently came close to losing another of their star performers this pre-season ahead of the next campaign.

Liverpool goal-machine Mohamed Salah was sought after by his countries FA to represent Egypt at this year’s Olympic Games.

Despite their desire to have Salah on board, the Reds have refused to release the 29-year-old this summer…

According to the Daily Mail, as cited by Anfield Watch, the Egyptian FA have tried multiple times to sway the Reds.

However, the club’s stance stands firm, with them not willing to be without Salah for pre-season and possibly the start of next season too.

It is understandable from Jurgen Klopp and his team’s point of view given Salah’s importance.

After last season, the club will be wanting every player back fit and ready to try and take the title back from Manchester City.

This will mean having serial goal-scorer Salah at the forefront of the club’s plans.

Hopefully, the winger won’t be too upset by the club’s decision given his desire to represent them.

He will no doubt be fully focused on the Premier League for next season alongside the rest of the squad.
