A number of rumours over potential transfers for Liverpool have been flying around over the past few weeks.

The likes of Youri Tielemans, Renato Sanches, Adama Traoré, and Domenico Berardi have all been linked.

One rumour that caused quite the stir surrounded Atletico Madrid midfielder Saúl Ñíguez.

The Reds had reportedly prepared a €40m (£35m) bid for the Spanish midfielder just the other day.

It had then been mooted that Barcelona were set to challenge the club for the 26-year-old with a swap deal including Griezmann.

However, The Athletic’s James Pearce has now confirmed that the club did not submit a £35million bid for Saúl…

As cited by LFC Transfer Room above, Pearce sat down with The 1892 Reds Podcast to talk all thing’s transfers.

When poised with the questions over the Saúl rumours, Pearce was quick to dismiss.

He stated that to his understanding, the rumours over the bid were incorrect and that the links are ‘tenuous’…

“At the moment it’s pretty tenuous. There were some reports of a £35m bid going in. My information is that definitely wasn’t correct. At the moment it’s a case of wait and see depending on what they can raise from sales.”

Pearce is a more than reliable source and the fact that the club didn’t actually bid for Saúl isn’t surprising.

The understanding already this summer is that the club is operating on limited finances.

As Pearce also states, it is currently a case of waiting to see how much the club can raise from player sales.
