Pundit says Jurgen Klopp must ‘daydream’ about signing Federico Chiesa

Liverpool have been extensively linked with a sensational move for Juventus star Federico Chiesa in recent months.

The 23-year-old came to the forefront of attention around Europe during Italy’s successful Euro 2020 campaign in the summer.

Since then Chiesa has continued to impress for both club and country amidst ongoing speculation surrounding his future.

Despite suffering defeat against Spain in the UEFA Nations League semi-final, the direct running of the Genova-born ace was once again a shining light for the Azzurri.

Former Crystal Palace defender Damien Delaney was full of praise for Chiesa whilst on commentary duty for Virgin Media Sport.

I’m a fan of his directness. It’s very rare these days that you see a player who’s as direct as he is. He gets the ball and he’s not interested in rolling the ball to the full-back or into midfield. Every time he gets the ball, it’s head down and run. Sometimes he’ll run through you, or over you – he can run around you, he can run inside, he can play the nice one-twos.

The 40-year-old the ex-Republic of Ireland international also suggested that the Reds’ manager would relish the opportunity.

For me, he’s a player that Jurgen Klopp would daydream about – long daydreams! He would fit that Liverpool frontline incredibly well. If you asked Jurgen Klopp for one player in the world that he could take, it would be him right now.

So far this season the 33-cap Italy star has scored twice and provided one assist in seven club appearances.

Given the rapid rise to prominence since joining Juventus on a two-year loan deal, it seems almost inevitable that the Serie A giants will trigger a £36million option to buy from Fiorentina.

Awarded best attacker at the Euros, signing Chiesa would be a remarkable coup for the Anfield club.

Supremely versatile, the Italian would offer sensational depth to Klopp’s squad and perhaps the ideal big-name replacement further down the line.

Valued at £63million (Transfermarkt), it seems highly unlikely that Liverpool could pull off such an expensive transfer.
