Just three days after a Molineux nightmare that left Arne Slot questioning his side’s defensive backbone, Liverpoolreturn to the West Midlands on Friday night for an immediate shot at redemption against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup fifth round.
The Reds were left stunned on Tuesday as a 94th-minute Andre strike condemned them to a 2-1 defeat the latest in a series of late-game collapses that have plagued their 2025-26 campaign.
For the Anfield faithful, the sense of deja vu is palpable, but with a place in the quarter-finals at stake, there is little time for the visitors to dwell on their midweek misery.
Surely lightning won’t strike twice at Molineux?
Thankfully, this game could hand Slot’s Reds a welcome distraction from their ongoing efforts to finish in the top-four places in the Premier League, as the FA Cup fifth round officially kicks off with this meeting between Wolves and the travelling Merseysiders.
Here is everything you need to know ahead of Liverpool’s second clash with Wolves, in the space of just four days.
How to watch
The fixture will kick off at 8pm GMT on Friday, March 6.
The game will be shown live on TNT Sports in the UK, with coverage for the FA Cup showdown starting at 7pm GMT on TNT Sports 1.
Additionally, the match will also be shown live for free on BBC One. Their coverage starts at 7.45pm GMT.
Recent form
Wolves
Liverpool know all too well now why they can’t underestimate their opposition heading into the Friday night affair at Molineux, having been on the receiving end of a 2-1 bruising in mid-week.
Wolves have suddenly breathed life back into their extremely faint chances of staying up, as Edwards and Co. have only lost once across their last five encounters in all competitions.
Edwards record at Wolves since joining:
| Competition | Matches played | Wins | Draws | Losses |
| Premier League | 15 | 3 | 3 | 9 |
| FA Cup | 2 | 2 | 0 | 0 |
| Overall | 17 | 5 | 3 | 9 |
He has also won both the FA Cup clashes that have come his way since taking on the reins of the basement club back in mid-November, with wins comfortably secured against League Two opponents Grimsby Town and Shrewsbury Town.
Wolves will be dreaming of entering the quarter-final stages, therefore, at the expense of the reigning Premier League champions, but Slot side will be desperate for revenge, surely, after that shock defeat on Tuesday night.
Liverpool
Minus that bump in the road at Molineux mid-week, Liverpool had been in a fine patch of form.
Indeed, Slot’s men have won their last four games in all competitions before the hosts had other ideas, with gritty victories secured against Nottingham Forest and Sunderland thrown into the mix, alongside goal-laden displays against Brighton and Hove Albion and West Ham United.
The 3-0 win over the Seagulls was the last time Liverpool had featured in the FA Cup during this season’s instalment, as a classy Reds home display saw a thumping win secured.
Liverpool fans will be desperately hoping they can progress through to the quarter finals after putting in an equally memorable showing, with the 2-1 defeat somewhat forgotten about in the process.

What has been said
Rob Edwards (Wolves)
Wolves manager has claimed that their cup tie against Liverpool is now “the most important game” of their season.
“We’re really valuing this game tomorrow and this game tomorrow is now the most important game of our season, but Tuesday night was the most important game of our season at that moment.
“But I think they’ll look to try and do things better and quicker, and we’ve got to be ready for that. There was actually a lot of good stuff in the first half without us then carrying enough threat, and we were actually pretty good without the ball and there was some really good moments with it as well.”
Arne Slot (Liverpool):
Slot, when speaking to the media before the FA Cup clash, spoke of the importance of the tie, even if it is a temporary distraction from matters in the Premier League, by highlighting the clash as a “massive” game.
He stated: “We always found every game we play very important and we always find every trophy we can win very important. So, last season we tried to win four and this season we tried to win four as well. But two are not possible anymore, the Premier League and the League Cup.
So the other two we are in, we try to win it, as we’ve always tried at this club. And of course for us qualification for the Champions League is massive, as we all know. But that’s not on the line tomorrow. Tomorrow the FA Cup is on the line and that’s a massive game for us.”
He also kept his cards close to his chest when it came to team selection, as he spoke about the potential of freshening up his XI, during what is a congested list of fixtures.
Slot further said: “We have a few, but we don’t have 11, as you know. But we do have a few options. I always have options to bring in and players you can bring in, you can also let them start. So we do have a few options.
But again, not for the first time this season that three days after a game we’ve again dropped points. And that is something I’ve seen us doing quite a lot this season. And now it’s again three days after the last one. So, we have to be better than we were the last time we played Wolves.”
