  • Armin Pecsi reveals the Liverpool duo who have helped him the most to settle
  • He also notes the fierce strikes he has to deal with in training
  • The young goalkeeper is highly rated at Anfield

Liverpool’s young goalkeeper Armin Pecsi has opened up on the help he has received from fellow Hungarian compatriots Dominik Szoboszlai and Milos Kerkez, since completing a dream switch to Anfield.

Once plying his trade for Hungarian first division side Puskás Akadémia FC, Pecsi must have been dreaming of a major move to a glamorous division such as the Premier League, further down the line.

After clearly impressing on the books of his ex-employers, with 52 appearances under his belt, Liverpool snapped up the young goalkeeper last summer, to make those wild ambitions come true, at just 21 years of age.

The 21-year-old goalkeeper has already made his mark at senior level, with Arne Sot handing him a memorable Anfield debut during the 2025/26 pre-season.

Pécsi replaced Freddie Woodman at half-time in the 4-1 victory over Athletic Club on August 4, 2025, as he even pulled off a vital one-on-one save against Gorka Guruzeta to preserve the lead.

With a Premier League 2 Player of the Month nomination also coming his way this January, it’s safe to say Pecsi could well go on to become Liverpool’s first-choice keeper in the near future, if he can continue to grow and impress at a rapid speed.

It hasn’t all been smooth for the 13-time Hungary U21 international, as he’s had to adapt to a new country and environment quickly.

Speaking to the official Liverpool club website, Pecsi singled out both Dominik Szoboszlai and Milos Kerkez as big helps in this department, as fellow Hungarians who are thriving in England.

Pecsi’s comments on Szoboszlai and Kerkez

Pecsi will no doubt want to, one day, be in the first team picture as regularly as both the midfielder and full-back are.

For the time being, though, he will have to make do with U21s action, with the pair cited as a “big inspiration” to him as he develops on Merseyside.

He said: “They helped me a lot, especially Dom because he’s here for a longer time. He helped me a lot,” the 21-year-old says.

“When I want to ask him something or get help, he always helps me. I think we get along good. It was good that sometimes I could speak to someone Hungarian or if I didn’t understand someone or ask about something or how things work here, it was easier to explain in Hungarian and he was here.

“Of course when it comes to football and we speak about football, in this part he can also help me a lot. When I see the guys or him in training, it’s a big inspiration in the big level they show every day.”

The 21-year-old stopper even commented on the frightening task of facing the Liverpool number eight in training, as he regularly unleashes some fierce trademark shots at Pecsi to deal with.

Indeed, the 25-year-old playmaker has his own personal goal-of-the-season competition going on right now, with a large portion of his 12 strikes for the campaign falling into the category of being a wonderstrike.

Pecsi said, when quizzed about facing the classy midfielder in training: “You can expect from any distance he will go for power! But he will also go for accuracy.

“There are some really, really good finishers on the first-team side. Everybody strikes the ball a little bit differently.

“It makes it difficult for the goalkeepers because you cannot expect how they will shoot because some players have more techniques and they also want to trick you.

“It was difficult at first but I think month by month or week by week, I could get to know them and it was easier. But this is also pushing me to get to their level.

“But Dom’s shots, I think everybody knows now. Hungarians knew it before but now I think everybody in England who likes football and maybe everyone in world football knows. He has a unique strike.”

Clearly, the young keeper is held in high regard at Anfield already, as he strives to become another first-team star that hails from Hungary, like Szoboszlai and Kerkez.
