Mohamed Salah has responded to the rumours that he could move to Australia after his illustrious Liverpool career is over, while sitting down to chat with ex-Fulham goalkeeper and former Aussie international Mark Schwarzer.
With a month left of his Reds career now, nobody is any the wiser as to what club Mohamed Salah will next call home when he finally brings down the curtain on his esteemed Anfield career.
He is more focused, at the moment, on getting back up to full fitness after an untimely hamstring knock cut short his game in the 3-1 against Crystal Palace in late April.
Thankfully, news filtering out of the Merseyside is encouraging on the injury front, with the Egyptian expected to feature again before the season is out, with the final-day Premier League meeting with Brentford set to be an emotional one.
Hopefully, the much-loved 33-year-old can pick up one final goal, before moving on, with the Liverpool veteran no doubt keen to still keep playing at the very top, past his lengthy stay in England.
It has been long reported that he would call the Saudi Pro League his next home, but that hasn’t whirred into motion, as of yet.
Moreover, the Major League Soccer seemed like a viable next destination for Salah, but nothing has materialised on this front, either.
Speaking to Australian outlet Stan Sports recently, the decorated Premier League winner even opened up about the possibility of a switch down under, when talking to former Fulham keeper Mark Schwarzer, who lined up for the Socceroos a whopping 109 times, away from settling in nicely at Craven Cottage.
“You never know” – Salah responds to A-League suggestion
Salah has played in several different countries during his well-travelled career to date.
Before becoming a modern-day great on Merseyside, with 257 goals in his back pocket at the time of writing, the one-of-a-kind number 11 also called Italy and Switzerland home with AS Roma and Basel, respectively.
Could Australia be the next destination he ticks off on his globetrotting adventures? Salah didn’t completely turn down the prospect when speaking to Stan Sports.
Mohamed Salah: Club Career Statistics:
| Club | Country | Appearances | Goals |
| Al Mokawloon | Egypt | 44 | 12 |
| FC Basel | Switzerland | 79 | 20 |
| Chelsea | England | 19 | 2 |
| Fiorentina (loan) | Italy | 26 | 9 |
| AS Roma | Italy | 83 | 34 |
| Liverpool | England | 440 | 257 |
He said, when asked by Schwarzer on whether he’d ever line up for an A-League side: “You never know, but if it was a legends game. I don’t see myself anywhere near it.”
He hasn’t ruled out a late career move to Australia; therefore, with former Reds great Robbie Fowler once calling the A-League home himself, when winding down his own esteemed playing days, featuring for Perth Glory.
Before he officially confirms who his next club will be, to bring his near-decade association with the Reds to an end, he will be aiming to see out his fantastic playing career with Liverpool in style.
Salah will be desperate to be back fit
He has already shown off his class this season on the big stage, when breaking the deadlock in the Merseyside Derby last month, after he easily beat Jordan Pickford to round off a fast-paced counter-attack.
Scoring against Fulham, too, just before going down with a worrying hamstring injury against the Eagles, Salah is now racing against time to be back fit, with only three Premier League games left of the season.
Arne Slot would’ve loved to have him at his disposal against Manchester United, as Salah is notorious for loving a goal against the Red Devils, but he was painfully absent, leading to the stumbling to a 3-2 loss.
Liverpool fans will be hoping for a return to form against a struggling Chelsea side this weekend. While Mohamed Salah is expected to remain sidelined, further clarity on his status should emerge following Arne Slot’s press conference on Friday, May 8th.
Fingers crossed he can feature again, soon, as Salah’s Liverpool ending now feels very real, after he took to social media to shockingly announce his exit back in March.
