Liverpool owners FSG have identified Carlo Ancelotti as a replacement to Brendan Rodgers, reveals the Mirror, but the former PSG manager appears to lack the desire to become next in line at Anfield.
Reports have been circulating all day regarding the future of Rodgers, yet after Liverpool released an official statement denying any approach was made, Ed Malyon of the Mirror is claiming that Ancelotti’s team of representatives have had contact with the Merseyside team.
These reports suggest that John Henry and the Liverpool hierarchy contacted Ancelotti early last week to get a feel of his interest for the job, but received a cold response, thought in part to be due to Liverpool’s absence from top-level European competition.
Ancelotti, however, is known to have a fondness for the five-time European champions, of whom he faced twice in Champions League finals in 2005 and 2007 respectively.

“I’ve followed Liverpool since 1984 after facing them with Roma in the European Cup Final, when we lost on penalties,” he said.
“It’s always been a club that excites me. The ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ they sing is incredible. Nobody sings an anthem like Liverpool fans.”
Even after these kind words, spoken in October of last year, he clearly sees the Anfield role as one that doesn’t offer enough for him to get back into the game.
