Mario Balotelli’s Liverpool nightmare has come to a halt, with the striker agreeing a loan deal to return to former team AC Milan, according to Gianluca di Marzio.
Balotelli, who was signed by Liverpool last summer, had never really settled in the first team, only making 28 appearances during the whole of last season, scoring a mere four goals in the process.
The 25-year-old striker made the trip to Italy last week to seal a loan deal to the club who sold him to Liverpool last year.
Signed in the wake of Luis Suarez’s sale to Barcelona, Balotelli had given reassurances that his behaviour and performances would make a marked improvement on those that had seen him become expendable to a poor AC Milan team.
Yet, these guarantees were put to the test on numerous occasions with anonymous performances for the club and questionable training ground actions, including scoring a goal in training from the half-way line – but in his own goal.
Liverpool will be hoping that his performances for Milan will end in a deal to take him back to his home country on a permanent basis, although the fee will be small due to only having one year left on his deal at the end of this season.
Brendan Rodgers will now look to offload fellow Italian striker Fabio Borini and Spaniard Jose Enrique to complete their summer overhaul and trim down a currently bulky squad.
