We normally do a combined XI of the current squads for Liverpool and their upcoming opponents, but that would be a waste of time at the moment as not a single Newcastle United player would make the cut.
But since the inception of the Premier League, the Magpies have had some serious talent at their disposal and, like the Reds, have come tantalisingly close to winning the title but haven’t quite managed to get over the line.
The two sides have played out some of the most thrilling games in the league’s history, and it is always a fixture to look forward to no matter what form the teams are in.
So, instead of creating a modern day one, we have conjured up a combined XI of players to have represented either side in the Premier League era.
We are fully aware that football began before 1992, but we have to start somewhere!
