Brendan Rodgers’ Anfield clock seems to be ticking, but former Liverpool man Danny Murphy thinks the current Reds boss has been undone due to the club’s transfer policy and backs Rodgers to turn it around.
I’ve harped on about the recruitment at Liverpool, and it’s killed Brendan at times, really,” said Murphy on talkSPORT. “I think he’s taken the backlash for the owners and the transfer committee.
Murphy admits that Rodgers obviously had some say in the matters, but not as much control as he should have.
“Yes, he has a say, I’m sure he has an influence with certain players, but I’m sure there are other times where he’s told, ‘no you can’t have him’.”

The former midfielder defends Rodgers and was impressed with his tactics during their second place finish in 2013-14.
“Two seasons ago, when Liverpool were close to winning the league, Brendan showed a lot of intelligence in terms of tactics and changes in formation,” Murphy added.
Rodgers’ seat in the dugout at Anfield is simmering this week more than ever after failing to beat newly-promoted Norwich City in the league at the weekend, then League Two side Carlisle United in midweek in the League Cup.
With names such as Jurgen Klopp and Carlo Ancelotti currently unemployed, Rodgers needs a change of fortunes before he finds himself in search of another job.
Murphy noted that come Christmas it might be reckoning time for Rodgers if things don’t improve, but many feel he won’t have that long of a leash.
