Defender out until February

Defender out until February

Liverpool will be without Martin Skrtel until February after the defender tore his hamstring during the Reds’ 3-0 loss to Watford on Sunday.

The Slovakian posted the following message on his personal Instagram account confirming the injury, but he did dispell a rumour that he’d be out for three months.

Liverpool face league leaders Leicester City on Boxing Day and it is not yet known if Dejan Lovren will be fit for that game, meaning Kolo Toure, who has yet to start a game in the Premier League this season, could be thrust into action.

Skrtel will miss some big matches in January, such as home games against Arsenal and Manchester United and the two-legged League Cup Semi-Final tie against Stoke City.

An optimistic timeframe for the Slovakian’s return would be the away tie with Leicester on the 2nd February, but the game on Valentine’s Day against Aston Villa is probably more realistic.
