Emre Can targets improvement

Emre Can has spoken about the parts of his game that he looking to improve upon as he looks to nail down a regular starting spot for Liverpool.

Having spent most of last season playing in defence, Can wants to make more of an impact on the team in terms of attacking, and knows that in order to do this, he needs to add more goals and assists to his game.

He said, as quoted in the Liverpool Echo:

I want to do more in attack and I know I can improve in that area of my game. I want to do much more going forward in terms of scoring goals and providing assists.

Liverpool have struggled for goals this season. They’ve managed to score just two in four league games; a wonderful strike by Philippe Coutinho against Stoke City, and a far post tap-in by Christian Benteke against Bournemouth that should have been flagged for offside.

Scoring was an issue for the Reds last season too, and in the absence of star striker Daniel Sturridge, Brendan Rodgers will want his midfielders chipping in with more goals.

Can did not put an actual number on how many goals he was targeting this campaign, but admitted that he does need to improve his tally:

I haven’t got a particular target of scoring five or 10 goals. I take one game at a time.

Perhaps I do have one target of scoring more goals than last season and last year I only scored one goal.

Hopefully, it will be more this season.
