Former Brazilian international defender Lucio says that his good friend Philippe Coutinho has the ability and potential to become the best player in the world.
He told Sky Sports:
I am very happy that [Coutinho] is having success at Liverpool. There is potential to be the best player in the world, of that there is no doubt. But it will depend on what happens around him. He is only going to get better.
Lucio, who won the World Cup with Brazil in 2002, was a teammate of Coutinho’s at Inter Milan and says that he became a support figure for the Liverpool star, and said that all of his success stems from his great attitude towards life and football:
My family got to know his family, and gave all our support, and we helped him achieve what he has with that support. Everything that he is doing now is down to his marriage and family. His attitude is perfect.

As Liverpool know all too well, when a player shows outstanding ability in a top European league, it’s not long before the top teams in Spain start sniffing around.
Barcelona’s transfer ban ends in January and speculation has been rife about the possibility of Coutinho joining the Catalan side, but Lucio says that his former teammate should reject any such move and continue his blossoming career at Liverpool, under the tutelage of Jurgen Klopp:
I think that is a personal decision for him, but Barcelona have a lot of great players, but that can put a shade on his play. Liverpool is the right place for him to become the best. He has his space, and can play where he wants.
