Fabinho has shared a photo of his superb goal-line clearance against Ajax on Wednesday night, following a wonderful performance from the Brazilian.
Liverpool’s week has been dominated by the injury to Virgil van Djik, with the Dutchman cruelly expected to miss the rest of the season with cruciate ligament damage.
Much has been made of the Reds’ defence potentially falling apart without Van Dijk in the team, so the pressure was on against Ajax.
Liverpool produced a professional, dogged performance, however, battling their way to a 1-0 win and shining at the back without their defensive colossus.
It was Fabinho who stood out the most on the night, slotting seamlessly into a centre-back role, rather than in his preferred defensive midfield position.
The Brazilian was a strong contender for Man of the Match and one moment stood out above the rest.
Former Southampton forward Dusan Tadic looked certain to score for Ajax in the first half, only for Fabinho to produce an acrobatic clearance off the line, preserving Liverpool’s clean-sheet in the process.
After the game, the 26-year-old shared a brilliant image of the moment on his Twitter account, with the caption, “Big one tonight”:

It was a magnificent display from Fabinho, who is going to be worth his weight in gold without Van Dijk around.
His versatility and intelligence are huge for Liverpool and he deserves all the praise he is receiving.
