In another match that should have been put away early, Liverpool left the visitors a chance. Despite being the superior side, the Reds allowed Augsburg to maintain hope, making the contest far more nervy than it needed to be.
The Germans only needed a single goal to advance and there were plenty of chances that caused plenty of concern.
It may not have been the best preparation for Sunday’s cup final. Yet, given how wildly inconsistent Liverpool’s performances have been, this could be a dress rehearsal for a demolition of Manchester City. If Liverpool are to get such an outcome, the forwards in particular will need to demonstrate greater precision around the net.
