Four Findings: Liverpool 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur

With Tottenham Hotspur arriving at Anfield firmly in race to catch Leicester City for the title, Liverpool likely spoiled any chances of that happening in an excellent, compelling match.

The Reds scored first but could not quite hang onto the lead, as Harry Kane pulled Spurs equal for a 1-1 draw.

Above all, this match may prove more revealing than any other of Liverpool’s recent fixtures.

This was an intense, technical affair, filled with desire and some genuine spiciness from both sides, with both sides determined to press and accelerate the speed of play.

Second-placed Spurs possess many similar qualities to Liverpool and may even preview some of the changes to come. The Londoners had a size advantage that is not lost on the Reds’ manager. A complement of new players and a full pre-season will indeed make a difference for the Merseysiders.

Still, this was two good sides, very evenly matched around the pitch, and neither one could quite wrestle the game away from the other for the result.

For Liverpool, it was the kind of performance required to ensure that the Southampton mess before the break was merely a blip.

Moreover, this match showed an even stronger glimpse of the kind of football that will be expected by Jurgen Klopp, full-throttle and committed.

With a bit more precision and quality, Liverpool should be challenging too next term.
