Four Findings: Liverpool 4-0 Everton

Four goals were scored to seal a fourth win on the bounce, in all competitions, for Liverpool, as the Reds ran rampant in the 226th Merseyside derby.

It took a little bit of time for Liverpool’s quality to emerge, but once it did, there was little Everton could do as Anfield watched a 4-0 battering.

For a “Friendly Derby”, things began more mildly than might be expected. Despite starting strongly, Liverpool did not quite click at first. Far and away the aggressors and applying the pressure, the Reds needed to get their timing right before they began to open up Everton.

After the opening twenty minutes, the match began to take shape with Liverpool applying increasing pressure. As the half wore on it was difficult to understand how Liverpool had yet to score. The Blues’ goalkeeper Joel Robles thwarted the Reds’ early chances.

Then two minutes before the break, Divock Origi scored, continuing his scoring streak with a fifth goal in the run of four wins. Liverpool then doubled their advantage with a header from Mamadou Sakho to go in at the break 2-0 up.

The result was effectively complete but the story was only starting.

Here are four findings from the match.
