Liverpool have secured a deal to sign Joel Matip on a free transfer at the end of the season, reports David Maddock of the Mirror.
The Schalke defender is out of contract in the summer and the Bundesliga side wanted him to remain in Gelsenkirchen, but it appears that he will be making the switch to the Premier League.
Matip, 24, made his senior debut in 2009 and has gone on to make 239 appearances for Die Königsblauen.

But the Cameroonian international is seeking a new challenge and that will come under Jurgen Klopp who, according to Maddock, was fond of Matip when he was in charge of Schalke’s Ruhr rivals Borussia Dortmund.
The Reds have already signed a centre-back during the January window, albeit on a temporary basis, as Steven Caulker joined on loan from Queens Park Rangers.
When the Englishman returns to his club at the conclusion of the campaign, the Reds seemingly have a replacement ready in Matip.
