Reliable Liverpool-based journalist Paul Joyce of the Express is reporting that Italian super-power Juventus are weighing up a move for Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva as an alternative for Julian Draxler, should that move fail to materialise.
The 28-year-old Brazilian is one of the most experienced players in the Liverpool camp, yet has often had a struggle to hold down a starting berth amongst Brendan Rodgers’ first 11 when everyone is fit and available.
Joyce claims that this, coupled with the player’s age could see him move across to Italy as a replacement for injury prone Sami Khedira, who is out of action until October with a thigh injury.
Khedira, who was only signed by Juventus this summer on afree transfer, hasn’t started more than 20 games in a season since 2009-10, will clearly need to be managed properly once he returns from the treatment table.
Juventus are not the only Italian side who are interested in Lucas, with the Mirror reporting that Inter Milan are also tracking his progress with great interest, which has stemmed back to January, when former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini tabled an offer for the international midfielder.
