At his news conference ahead of Liverpool’s Europa League tie with Rubin Kazan, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp gave an update on the status of some of his injured players.
On Daniel Sturridge, Klopp said that the striker began training again on Tuesday but insisted that he wouldn’t be ready for Thursday’s game and said the target for him was to be fit for Sunday’s home tie with Southampton.
Klopp also said that defender Dejan Lovren and the attacking duo of Christian Benteke and Roberto Firmino were all back in training and although none of them are ready to play a full game, they might be able to take a place on the bench against Kazan on Thursday.

The new Reds’ boss also spoke about Joe Gomez and Danny Ings, the pair of young English players who suffered season-ending injuries recently. He said both have undergone successful surgeries with no complications.
Finally, on Jordan Rossiter who suffered a hamstring injury after playing three games in five days on England Under-19 duty, Klopp held no punches when criticising the FA:
I’ve never heard of a player 19 playing three games in five days. I don’t know who I have to speak to but it is not ok. I will speak with someone about this. These young players are our future. If you treat them like horses, you get horses.
